Chaski Global is located in Charlottesville, Virginia. We leverage an incredible talent base, are inspired by history, and enjoy direct access to nature all within 2.5 hours of Washington, D.C.
Steve is a strategic communications professional with 24 years of experience in political, policy, corporate and institutional non-profit communications. While living in the District of Columbia for 15 years, his work included driving corporate grasstops support for the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, creating external communications strategies to introduce the nascent Metropolitan Policy Program at the Brookings Institution, and driving media coverage and producing government relations materials regarding issues related to software and digital content publishing, taxation of electronic commerce, and shareholder-owned electric power companies.
Steve has served as a Communications Director and consultant for the past decade, serving clients in healthcare, education technology, finance, heavy civil construction, real estate development, electronic commerce, and public policy management. Most notably, he created a communications strategy for Microsoft’s flagship $500 million education program providing resources for teachers in 114 nations. He lives in Keene, Virginia with his wife and two children, a daughter adopted from the Caribbean and a son adopted from Latin America. Steve is on the governing boards of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville and Piedmont CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children).
VALERIA MCFARREN PIPER
Valeria is a strategic communications professional with more than a decade of experience developing and implementing communications and advocacy strategies across the United States, Asia, Africa, Latin America and Europe. Valeria heads Corporate Communications for Pike Corporation, one of the largest power engineering companies in the US, and is an Adjunct Professor at the Federal Executive Institute. Previously at the Millennium Challenge Corporation she was responsible for creating the agency’s results portfolio, and served as the counterpart to communications experts in 23 countries, overseeing budgets over $10 million and executing national communications campaigns. She has provided executive counsel to leaders in government, NGOs and corporations delivered consulting services for IBM, Citibank, the World Bank and several NGOs.
She earned a Master’s Degree in Corporate Communications from Georgetown University and a Bachelor’s of Arts from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. She is the President and founder of the Kappa Charlottesville Alumnae Association and volunteers with Big Brother Big Sister.
Valeria is conversational in French and Portuguese, and speaks Spanish fluently. She was born and raised in La Paz, Bolivia, and lives in Charlottesville, Virginia with her husband.
Megan is a designer with over 5 years of experience. With an in-depth knowledge of infographics, she is able to take complex data and translate it visually to help clients tell their story. She also has extensive experience in publication design and branding.
Megan joined the Chaski team in 2015 after working for a full-scale advertising agency where she worked on clients from local nonprofits to international companies. Prior to that, she attended the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design where she graduated with a Bachelors of Arts.
Megan resides in Charlottesville where she enjoys hiking and partaking in the vibrant local viticulture scene. She also volunteers with Thrive, where she chairs the Development Committee.
As a professional photographer and videographer, Drew creates digital materials for strategic promotion via the web and social media distribution for internal and external audiences. With an emphasis on visual storytelling, he brings to life complex narratives through relatable human-scale vignettes. Before joining Chaski Global, Drew served as the Communications Associate for the Presidential Precinct, a Virginia-based NGO focused on building diplomatic skills among emerging global leaders, where he created comprehensive communications assets including more than 150 video blogs that have reached more than 50,000 people around the world. A graduate of the University of Virginia, Drew also served as the video editor for The Cavalier Daily, where he led a team of twelve videographers to capture and edit videos for the cavalierdaily.com.
Ben is a digital storyteller with more than ten years experience in strategic communications, marketing, and public relations. He specializes in web development, online campaigns, and data-driven decision making.
Ben began work with Chaski Global in the summer of 2016. He previously served as Director of Communications for Madison House, the student volunteer center at the University of Virginia.
Ben currently serves on the board of directors for the Music Resource Center, a Charlottesville based non-profit. He is also pursuing a Master of Public Policy degree at the University of Virginia’s Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy.
